Weather and seasons
October to April (Rainy season)
During the rainy season, you can expect thunderstorms with short downpours in the morning and/or afternoon, followed by cloudy skies with occasional sun.
This season brings new growth as the vegetation becomes lush and green. It’s also the time for calving, as there are plenty of fresh plants for the animals to feed on. If you enjoy a spot of birdwatching, you’re in for a treat, as the blooming flowers attract various birds and insects, including migratory birds. There are also plenty of photo opportunities, with moody skies, vibrant colours, and beautiful landscapes, so don’t forget to pack your camera.
May to September (Dry season)
The dry season in Africa is a prime time for safaris as it provides better wildlife viewing opportunities. The lack of vegetation makes the animals more visible, and the limited water sources lead to more animals gathering at these spots, making for a concentrated viewing experience.
The winter season offers the added benefit of cooler temperatures, which decreases the number of insects, particularly mosquitoes. While mosquitoes may still be present, their numbers are significantly reduced in cooler weather.
