We also recently completed a stylish new cocktail lapa bar, where guests can watch the sun go down as they sip on a refreshing cocktail, expertly prepared by our friendly barmen.

"What can I say??? Kusudalweni Lodge, blew away my expectations!!! It had all the amenities of a Ritz Carlton, but also made you feel like your home with all the comforts!!!! Dave and Maria, made us feel so welcome and the staff did an amazing job pampering us! You will be hard pressed to find such comfort at any place that provides the access to BIG 5 safari game drives and the amenities you would expect at a 5 star hotel, including spa services like massages! They even set us up for an amazing walk with white lions, complimentary!!!! We will definitely go back and enjoy Kusudalweni again!!!!"

"Dave and Maria, your outstanding hosts, will welcome you into their phenomenal lodge. Their outstanding staff and friendly dog Jesse will make you feel right at home in the African bush. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated. The meals are delicious. The array of available activities will ensure that you are never bored. Highly recommended!"

"Dave and Maria make you feel right at home at Kusudalweni with their friendly greetings, cozy atmosphere around den and dinner table, and beautiful surroundings. But this is better than home because the food is delicious and ample, drink glasses are never empty, rooms are clean with fresh linens and luxurious decor, and wildlife amble just outside the hot tub. Also love the outdoor shower."

Frank Alphonse G, Houston, United States

"Stayed for 3 nights (not enough) & had such an incredible time. Maria & Dave are just the nicest people & lots of fun. The chalets are beautiful & secluded. Was like leaving family when I left. The drives in the parks with Larry were informative & rewarding. Saw the big 5 in just over 2 hours & walking with West's 'girls' WOW. Had a cuddle with a white lion, her paws were around my back. Maria, Dave & all the Kusudalweni family thank you for such a wonderful time & big hugs to Jessie. Definitely will be back."

"This place is a Paradise. Dave and Maria are the best owners that you can desire. The place is clean, comfortable, with luxury furniture and the food is simply amazing... compliments to the Chef! We had wonderful days in the bush at Kusudalweni and our trips were perfectly organized by Dave and Maria.

Definitely one of the best place were you can stay in the world."

Andrea G, Panama City, Panama

"The Chateau, staff and food were all amazing! If you are headed to the Kruger area, please book this lodge!!!! I would recommend staying a minimum of 4 nights in order to enjoy all of the wonderful activities that Maria and Dave put together."

Mally J, Bermuda

"The rooms are invitingly luxurious and the food is fabulous. A warm welcome from the owners, Maria and David, themselves made for a visit that seemed like we were staying at their home. Joy, the cook, is very talented. Robbie, our safari guide, is very knowledgeable and filled our game drives with unforgettable experiences."

3Waylanders, Wayland, Massachusetts

"Maria and David have created a really upscale version of a safari lodge. This intimate resort (maximum 10 guests) features beautifully appointed free-standing private rooms, open to the surrounding bush. Dining is family style; the food is excellent and personalized -- including for kosher guests like us.

Game drives take place in the Manyeleti reserve, open to Kruger Park, but where the vehicles are allowed off road for up close and personal experiences (within reason) with the animals. We really enjoyed trips with Robbie whose love for the bush and its wildlife is infectious."

Profrl2016, Jerusalem, Israel

"Maria, Dave and their lovely Golden Retriever Jessica made our stay in Kusudalweni unforgettable. They always made sure to make our days full of experiences and we really felt being cuddled all the time. Their chef Joy was simply amazing and the braai (bbq) quite an "Afrikaner" experience.

Remove all the dust from a day safariing in the private jacuzzi overlooking the reserve was the icing on the cake... we already miss it! "

Mark Torna, Turin, Italy

"We've just arrived home from a three-night stay at Kusudalweni and my kids are already asking when we are going back! Dave and Maria really went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves at all times.

Nothing was too much trouble! The lodge is beautifully furnished and you can see that everything was perfectly thought out. The food is amazing - Joy went out of her way to make sure her meals were adult as well as child friendly and every meal was absolutely delicious.

By day my kids looked so forward to swimming in the Jacuzzi, by our room, and at night they couldn't wait to sit in the boma, under the stars, around the fire. We will definitely go back again soon!"

Pamela Joseph, Johannesburg, South Africa

"We have stayed at Kusudalweni Safari Lodge and had a wonderful time. Wish we could stay longer. The rooms are beautiful and so relaxing. This was perfect and is great for the whole family. Thank you Maria and Dave."

Reynard V

"We stayed here with friends for 3 nights and had an incredible time. Maria and Dave have created a luxurious lodge in beautiful surroundings with a number of equally luxurious chalets in the grounds. Joy and Tiani created wonderful food everyday we were there. Elardus was great fun as a guide on the numerous game drives that we did and Leonard have us a nice bush walk. If you find yourself there you must take a visit to West and walk with his white lions, it's an incredible experience. I wish Maria and Dave every success with this venture. Absolutely worth a visit. "

"We stayed here for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We have stayed in several safari lodges in Timbavati and Sabi Sand and this place is right up there with the best of them. The property is extra special in design - both in the main building and in the lodges in the grounds.

The owners, an English couple, Maria and Dave, really pushed the boat out when it came to ensuring that our stay was the best it possibly could be, ably supported by excellent staff. All the meals we had were first class and the variety of fare was excellent.

This is a fairly new venture, if there's any justice it will be a great success.

A couple of suggestions: Where the outdoor sofas are, I would prefer to have that area set for breakfast - it's much nicer taken outside when the weather is good. Provide some sort of screen for the toilet in the room, it was just a little too open for our taste.

Thanks again for making our stay memorable and hope to see you again one day!"

"Warren and I are bush crazy, and love to visit nice places tucked away in the African Bush. Kusudalweni met all of our expectations of a 5 star getaway and more. The chic décor, excellent food, great game viewing, great location and amazing staff were just a few of the things that contributed to the most amazing 5 star weekend. With your own private jacuzzi, indoor shower, bath overlooking the bush and outdoor shower, how could the weekend be anything but AMAZING???

Dave and Maria are great fun to be around, we absolutely loved their company, and Jessie the pooch, who has no flies on her, alerts you when there is game around!!! We were constantly entertained by the monkeys around our chalet, the zebra munching on the lawn and the bush buck strolling around in true African Style. Joy cooks up a storm, and makes sure you leave weighing a few kilos more than when you arrived, her desserts are out of this world. Leonard can't do enough to make your stay a memorable one, and his braai-ing skills are the best. The rest of the staff are also very friendly and joyful. And of course, the best ever, was the cleanliness of the lodge and the chalets with nice clean white linen and the best pillows ever. We had the most amazing weekend ever and will most definitely be back."

"This was my first time in South Africa and I had been diligent about studying the various lodges. This place was surprisingly available and I was more than fortunate to have booked it for 2 nights.

Foreword: I consider myself a New Yorker and am from NJ. I look for the hidden gems of speak easy lounges, top end restaurants in its entirety. Many places give a dingenous marketing pitch, Kusudalweni was complete authentic with the know-how bookings of exciting activities (that you don't find seem to find anywhere else), chic interior design lined with nascent African tones, and furnished with service made for Queens.

Reasons why you must book this place over the other commonly booked areas:

1. Exceeding All Key Factors. Location, Service, Decor, Food, Amenities, Activities. All of the above were a 5 star experience at Kusudalweni. Maria is an interior designer who spent countless time importing furniture from various countries around the world. What you get is this mixture of the 'Bowery Hotel' and South African luxury designed for intimacy, serenity and admiration. The personal chef is fantastic. Joy comes out to ask you what you want for breakfast and your preferences for dinner. Additionally, she is very sweet. As other visitors said, "Joy can cook anytime". The amenities and services are better than any villa or hotel I've stayed at in the past 2 years including places in Peru, Costa Rica and Spain. Staying in the Chalet can be compared to being invited to an evening to stay at a Palace for a couple. Lastly, Maria and Dave have curated some of the best of Africa throughout their own romantic journeys as they traveled over their own years. Our personal experience: They have relationships with locals and arranged for us to have a Big 5 Safari with the best Lion Tracker in Manyeleti Reserve (we even saw African Wild Dogs - more rare than a leopard), a journey to the 6000 year old Baobab tree, Predator park (where we played with Lions, a Leopard, Cats, a Baboon and a Capuchin), and a 'Walk with the Lions'. We petted and walked with Lions in the Bush. An unbelievable experience that was all planned, coordinated and engineered for perfect timing. The small things were all thought of. That's tough to say considering I'm a Pharmacist =).

2. Personal Touch. We dined with Maria and 'Sir Dave'; a married couple living the dream as people who fell in love with South Africa and wanted to make this paradise a lifestyle. We enjoyed the art of conversation that they politely entertained us with. Everything from being stuck in the bush (our car overheated) to dining and events was taken care of. Not to mention Leonard our escort, spoke English and was gentle, observant and patient. He helped us take pictures throughout the days and was also our chaufer.

3. Value. You cannot get a better deal than this. Honestly, you will pay double at other places and probably be surrounded with many tourists.

4. Novelty. All the linens, towels and utilities were brand new. You don't get the used feeling of pillows, linens or rough towels. The outdoor shower, indoor shower, tub, private jacuzzi are amazing.

5. Book here now and e-mail Maria, she will make sure you are well taken care of. She's as sweet as pie. Like I said, get here before it becomes the 'hot place' that you can't get into."

Alex Wang, New Jersey

"We booked this lodge as a first time experience in safari and game reserve. We are experienced travellers and have had many stays in the best hotels of the world. A lodge is a different kind of experience but our stay here was sublime. We enjoyed every moment. We where welcomed very warmly by Maria and David. Until the moment we left we had the feeling to be truly welcome.

The lodge itself is beautiful and new. The passion for both the state of building and service is absolute 5 star. In addition the safari experience is phenomenal. The experienced rangers (Elardus picked us up every day and truly inspires and knows his stuff and remained fun even after the long day!), great cooks and impeccable cleaning makes this a truly amazing experience. We enjoyed every moment and keep talking about it. We would love to go back!"
